The works shown were completed outside the classroom setting, independent of any instruction or the motivation of a class assignment. These are studies continuing the development of a personal style, gestural expressions attempting to convey the mood and feeling of a particular place or event. The chair 'portrait' is a revisited theme due to my design roots and the California landscapes are variations on the beauty around me.
Figure Studies
Most of the figure studies are a result of classroom models brought in for pure artistic study as well as 'costumed' situations to challenge our abilities to represent fabrics and other objects. Some studies proved to be interesting enough to pursue as a complete painting or as a series. Some works were done independently of the class using friends and acquaintances to record the experience.
